Buyers should prioritize OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified fabrics to ensure the absence of harmful chemicals. Key materials include high-grade mulberry silk (19-22 momme) for luxury lines, and nylon/spandex blends (typically 80/20 ratio) for stretch and recovery. For functional items, look for breathable cotton gussets and moisture-wicking properties in the fabric specifications.

Compliance varies significantly by region. For the US market, ensure products meet CPSC flammability standards and CPSIA lead content regulations for any metal hardware. For the EU market, products must comply with REACH regulations regarding azo dyes and nickel release in clasps. Always request third-party lab test reports (SGS or ITS) from the supplier before shipment.

Focus on stitch density (typically 10-12 stitches per inch) to prevent seam failure. For bras, verify the use of nylon-coated or stainless steel underwires to prevent rusting and skin irritation. Ensure adjustable straps have reinforced bartack stitching at tension points, and check that colorfastness ratings are Grade 4 or higher to prevent bleeding during washing.

Utilize Secured Trading Services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com to ensure payment is only released upon confirmation of receipt. Always conduct a factory audit or video inspection to verify the supplier's production capacity and legitimacy. Avoid using non-traceable payment methods like Western Union for initial bulk transactions.

Start by requesting a tiered pricing structure based on volume (e.g., 500, 1000, 5000 units). If you are a startup, negotiate a lower MOQ for trial orders by offering to use stock fabrics already available at the factory. Clearly define Incoterms (such as FOB or DAP) in the contract to avoid hidden logistics costs later in the process.

For high-value or seasonal launches, Air Freight or Express Couriers (DHL/FedEx) are preferred for their 3-7 day delivery window. For bulk replenishment, Sea Freight (LCL - Less than Container Load) is the most cost-effective, though it requires a 30-45 day lead time. Ensure the supplier uses vacuum packaging or moisture-proof PE bags to protect delicate fabrics from humidity during transit.
