Metal enamel pin badge manufacturers

The choice depends on the desired finish and budget. Hard Enamel (Cloisonné) badges are polished to a smooth, flat surface where the enamel is level with the metal borders, offering a premium, jewelry-like quality and high durability. Soft Enamel badges have recessed enamel paint below the metal ridges, creating a textured, 3D feel; they are more cost-effective and allow for more intricate metal detailing. For high-end corporate branding, Hard Enamel is preferred, while Soft Enamel is ideal for promotional giveaways.

Buyers should specify the base metal (typically Zinc Alloy for complex 3D shapes or Iron/Copper for die-struck designs). Ensure the plating color (e.g., Real Gold, Nickel, Antique Bronze) is clearly defined. For the attachment, specify the clutch type (Butterfly clutch, Rubber cap, or Magnetic backing). It is critical to request Pantone Matching System (PMS) color codes to ensure brand consistency across bulk production runs.

For the US market, products must comply with the CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act), specifically regarding Lead and Phthalate content. For the EU, badges must meet REACH regulations and be Nickel-free to prevent skin allergies. Always request SGS or Intertek test reports from suppliers on Made-in-China.com to verify that the raw materials and electroplating processes meet these international safety benchmarks.

Check for color bleeding or 'overfill' where enamel spills onto the metal lines. The surface should be free of air bubbles, dust particles, or scratches. Perform a 'cross-cut' adhesion test or a simple scratch test to ensure the enamel does not flake off. For Hard Enamel, the surface should be perfectly level without any dips. Verify that the attachment (pin post) is firmly soldered and does not wobble under pressure.

Custom items carry a higher risk of 'expectation gaps.' Always request a pre-production sample before authorizing full-scale manufacturing. Use the Secured Trading services provided by Made-in-China.com to ensure payment is only released after shipping documents are verified. Additionally, insist on a detailed artwork proof (digital mockup) that specifies dimensions, metal thickness (usually 1.2mm to 2.0mm), and all colors.

Focus on mold fees and volume breaks. Most suppliers charge a one-time mold fee (typically $50-$100); negotiate for this to be waived on re-orders or orders exceeding 500 units. Inquire about unit price tiers, as the price for 1,000 units is often 30-50% lower than for 100 units due to the setup labor involved in the coloring process.

Since metal badges are small but dense, Air Express (DHL/FedEx/UPS) is the most efficient method for quantities under 5,000 pieces, offering a balance of speed and tracking security. For larger bulk shipments, Sea Freight (LCL) is more economical but requires a longer lead time. Ensure the supplier uses individual polybags and bubble wrap cushioning to prevent the pins from scratching each other during international transit.

Ensure you have the legal right to use the logos or designs you are producing. When working with suppliers on Made-in-China.com, you can request a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) to protect your original designs from being sold to other buyers. Reputable Audited Suppliers are generally more compliant with IP protection standards.
