When evaluating adult products, prioritize body-safe materials such as medical-grade silicone, non-porous TPE, or borosilicate glass. Ensure the products are phthalate-free and latex-free to prevent allergic reactions. For electronic items, verify waterproof ratings (IPX7 or higher) and battery longevity, specifically looking for rechargeable lithium-ion batteries with USB magnetic charging capabilities for durability and hygiene.

Compliance is critical for customs clearance and consumer safety. Ensure suppliers provide CE marking and RoHS certification for electronic components. For the US market, products must comply with FDA regulations regarding medical devices or health accessories. For the EU, adherence to REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) is essential to ensure no hazardous substances are present in the materials.

Request third-party lab test reports focusing on tensile strength and material purity. For motorized units, ask for decibel (dB) level tests to ensure noise levels remain below 50dB for discretion. It is highly recommended to order pre-production samples to test the ergonomic design, vibration frequency stability, and surface finish consistency across different batches.

Products are typically categorized into retail/e-commerce consumer goods, health and wellness spa supplies, or medical therapeutic aids. Functional requirements include multi-speed vibration patterns, app-controlled connectivity (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi) for long-distance use, and discreet aesthetic designs that do not immediately identify the product's nature, which is a growing trend in modern wellness markets.

The biggest risk is customs seizure due to local 'decency laws' or strict regulations on medical devices. Always use discreet packaging (plain brown boxes with neutral descriptions like 'Plastic Massager' or 'Health Accessory'). Ensure your supplier provides an accurate HS Code (typically 9019.10 or 3926.90) to avoid misclassification and potential fines.

Focus on tiered pricing models where the unit cost decreases by 15-25% as volume increases from 500 to 2,000 units. Negotiate for OEM/ODM services, such as custom logo printing and bespoke packaging, which are often included for free if the order meets a certain threshold. Always request a breakdown of the Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure you aren't overpaying for low-grade components.

Utilize secure payment gateways and trade assurance services provided by Made-in-China.com to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment. For large orders, hire a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to conduct a During Production Check (DUPRO) and a Final Random Inspection (FRI) to verify that the quality matches the approved sample before the final balance is paid.

Stay informed about import tariffs (such as Section 301 tariffs for US-China trade) which can add 10-25% to your landed cost. Additionally, ensure your marketing and labeling comply with the destination country's advertising laws, as some regions prohibit the explicit promotion of adult products on social media or public platforms.
