20l container for chemicals manufacturers

The most common and reliable material is High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) due to its excellent chemical resistance, high impact strength, and durability. For volatile or sensitive chemicals, ensure the container features fluorination treatment or a multi-layer co-extrusion (COEX) structure to prevent permeation and container deformation (panelling).

If the chemicals are classified as dangerous goods, the containers must have UN Certification (United Nations Packaging Symbol). This indicates the packaging has passed rigorous tests including drop tests, stack tests, and hydraulic pressure tests. Additionally, verify that the manufacturer follows ISO 9001 for quality management and ISO 16106 for transport packaging for dangerous goods.

Look for containers with tamper-evident screw caps and inner plugs or induction foil seals to ensure airtightness. The design should include a sturdy integrated handle for safe manual handling and a stackable recessed bottom to ensure stability when palletized. For liquids that emit gas, vented caps are essential to equalize internal pressure.

Always request a Chemical Compatibility Chart from the supplier. You should perform a compatibility test by filling a sample container with your specific chemical for at least 28 days at elevated temperatures to check for stress cracking, softening, or discoloration. Made-in-China.com verified suppliers often provide technical data sheets (TDS) for this purpose.

Engage a third-party inspection service (such as SGS or Intertek) to conduct a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI). Focus on wall thickness consistency using ultrasonic gauges and perform a leakage test on a random sample. Ensure the UN marking is permanently embossed on the container body, not just a sticker.

Negotiate based on raw material index pricing (e.g., HDPE market rates) to ensure transparency. Request tiered pricing where the unit cost drops significantly at Full Container Load (FCL) quantities, as shipping empty containers is costly. Ask for custom color masterbatches or embossed branding to be included at no extra cost for orders exceeding 5,000 units.

Empty containers are 'volumetric cargo,' meaning you pay for space rather than weight. To optimize costs, use Sea Freight and maximize the container utilization rate. Ensure the supplier uses heavy-duty pallets and stretch-wrapping to prevent the containers from shifting and scratching during transit, which can compromise structural integrity.

Utilize Secured Trading Services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your payment until delivery is confirmed. Always use Letters of Credit (L/C) or Telegraphic Transfer (T/T) with a 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) to maintain financial leverage.
