Backlit onyx panel manufacturers

When sourcing onyx panels, the most critical factor is translucency and stone thickness. For effective backlighting, panels are typically calibrated to 16mm to 20mm, though ultra-thin veneers (3mm-5mm) laminated on glass or honeycomb are popular for weight reduction. Ensure the stone is free of structural fissures that could expand under the heat of LED systems. Always request backlit photos of the specific slab (book-matched) to verify the vein patterns and light distribution.

Onyx is a relatively soft and porous calcium-based stone. For high-traffic areas or horizontal surfaces, ensure the supplier applies a high-quality penetrating sealer to prevent staining. For safety in vertical installations (feature walls), verify that the panels are fiber-mesh backed to prevent shattering. If used in public spaces, confirm the material meets ASTM E84 or equivalent flame spread ratings for interior finishes.

To avoid 'hot spots' (visible light dots), use LED light guide plates (LGP) or high-density LED strips with a minimum distance of 50mm-100mm between the light source and the stone. Ensure the LEDs have a High CRI (Color Rendering Index) of >90 to maintain the natural warmth of the onyx colors. It is recommended to source from suppliers who can provide integrated solutions (stone + LED framing) to ensure technical compatibility.

These panels are primarily used in luxury hospitality and high-end residential projects. Common applications include hotel reception desks, feature walls, bar counters, and elevator interiors. Due to its aesthetic impact, it is often the centerpiece of a design. For wet areas like bathrooms, ensure the LED components are IP65-rated for moisture resistance.

Onyx is extremely fragile. You must mandate professional export packaging, which includes reinforced wooden crates (fumigated), internal foam padding, and A-frame supports for large slabs. It is highly recommended to purchase All-Risk Marine Insurance and include a clause for 'concealed damage' discovered upon unpacking.

Focus on yield rates and slab selection. Instead of just negotiating the square meter price, negotiate the selection criteria (e.g., no large black spots, specific vein direction). For large projects, request a dry-lay inspection where the supplier lays out all panels in the factory for your approval via video call before packing. This prevents costly returns of mismatched stones.

Use Secured Trading services provided by Made-in-China.com to ensure your payment is held until shipping documents are verified. Never pay 100% upfront; a standard 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) or after a successful third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI) is the industry norm for protecting buyer interests.

Verify the HS Code (typically 6802) to check for anti-dumping duties in your country. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Origin and a Fumigation Certificate for the wooden packaging to avoid port delays. For the US market, ensure compliance with the Lacey Act regarding the legal sourcing of natural materials.
