The choice between Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) and Aluminum is critical. For high-performance and long-term reliability, 99.99% pure copper is preferred due to its superior conductivity and resistance to corrosion. If the project is budget-sensitive and involves long-distance power transmission, Aluminum Alloy may be used, but ensure the cross-sectional area is increased to compensate for lower conductivity.

For standard indoor use, PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is cost-effective. However, for public buildings or high-safety areas, you must specify LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) to prevent toxic gas release during fire. For outdoor or underground applications, prioritize PE (Polyethylene) for moisture resistance or XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) for higher thermal stability and voltage endurance.

Compliance is non-negotiable in the cable industry. Ensure products meet UL (Underwriters Laboratories) for the North American market, CE and VDE for Europe, and RoHS/REACH for chemical safety. For specialized cables like LAN or Fiber Optic, verify TIA/EIA-568 or IEC 60794 standards to ensure data transmission integrity.

Request a Third-Party Inspection (TPI) such as SGS or Intertek. Key tests should include the Conductor Resistance Test, Insulation Wall Thickness Measurement, and Flame Retardancy Test. Always ask the supplier for a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) and a batch-specific Quality Assurance (QA) report.

The biggest risk is 'Under-gauging,' where the actual copper diameter is thinner than labeled. To mitigate this, include a clause in your contract stating that payment is contingent upon passing a resistance test. Additionally, be aware of fluctuating raw material prices (Copper/Aluminum LME prices), which may lead suppliers to adjust quotes if not locked in.

Negotiate based on the 'Copper Price + Processing Fee' formula. This transparency protects both parties from market volatility. For large orders, aim for a 10-15% discount on the processing fee and request free labeling or customized drum packaging for better brand recognition.

Cables are heavy and high-volume. Use FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain control over shipping costs. Ensure the supplier uses treated wooden or steel drums that meet ISPM 15 fumigation standards to avoid customs delays. For sea freight, specify moisture-proof wrapping to prevent oxidation of exposed cable ends.

Utilize the Secured Trading Services on Made-in-China.com to protect your deposit. Never wire 100% of the payment upfront; a standard 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) is recommended. Verify the supplier's Audited Supplier status on the platform to ensure they have a physical factory and valid export licenses.
