Carmine price manufacturers

When sourcing Carmine, the price is primarily driven by the Carminic Acid content, which typically ranges from 50% to 90% for lake pigments and water-soluble powders. You must verify the pH stability (acid-stable vs. standard) and the physical form (liquid, powder, or paste), as these factors significantly impact the unit cost. Ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Analysis (COA) for every batch to confirm purity levels.

As a food-grade colorant (E120), Carmine must comply with FDA (21 CFR 73.100) for the US market and EFSA regulations for the EU. Buyers should prioritize suppliers with HACCP, ISO 22000, or FSSC 22000 certifications. Additionally, if your target market requires it, ensure the product is Halal or Kosher certified, as the insect-derived nature of Carmine makes these certifications critical for specific consumer segments.

The choice depends on the solubility and heat processing of your end product. For beverages, you require water-soluble Carmine with high acid stability to prevent precipitation. For cosmetics (lipsticks/blushes), a Carmine Lake is preferred for its opacity and lightfastness. For meat processing, heat-stable variants are essential to maintain color during pasteurization. Matching the specific grade to your application prevents costly production failures.

The most significant risk is adulteration or dilution with synthetic dyes (like Allura Red) to artificially lower the price. To mitigate this, use third-party testing (SGS or Intertek) to verify the absence of synthetic colors. Another risk is price volatility due to the harvest cycles of the cochineal insect; consider long-term contracts or blanket purchase orders to lock in pricing during market fluctuations.

Focus on volume-based pricing tiers and payment security. Request a sample (50g-100g) for lab testing before committing to a bulk order. Negotiate for Tiered Pricing where the cost per kg drops significantly at 500kg or 1,000kg thresholds. Always use Secure Payment services provided by the platform to ensure funds are only released upon proof of shipment and quality verification.

Carmine is sensitive to moisture and direct sunlight. Ensure the supplier uses vacuum-sealed, light-proof aluminum foil bags inside reinforced fiber drums. For shipping, FOB (Free On Board) is recommended for experienced buyers to control freight costs, while CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) is better for beginners. Ensure the HS Code (3203.00) is correctly declared to avoid customs delays and verify the specific import duties for natural pigments in your country.
