Challenge coin manufacturers

Most professional challenge coins are made from Zinc Alloy (for 3D designs) or Brass (for a premium weight and feel). Plating options include Gold, Silver, Copper, and Antique finishes. For a high-end look, Antique Bronze or Antique Silver is often preferred as it highlights fine details and resists fingerprints.

Hard Enamel (Cloisonné) provides a smooth, flat surface where the metal lines are flush with the paint, offering a premium, durable finish suitable for high-end corporate gifts. Soft Enamel has recessed paint areas and raised metal borders, creating a textured 3D effect; it is more cost-effective and popular for military and club trading coins.

You must specify the coin diameter (typically 1.5" to 2.5"), thickness (usually 3mm to 5mm), and edge cut style (such as flat edge, rope edge, or diamond cut). Ensure the supplier uses Pantone Matching System (PMS) codes to guarantee color accuracy for logos and branding.

Ensure the products comply with REACH or RoHS standards, particularly regarding lead and nickel content in the base metal and plating. For US-bound shipments, verify compliance with CPSIA if the coins are intended as promotional items that might reach children.

Always request a pre-production physical sample rather than relying solely on digital mockups. Use Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services to ensure your payment is protected until the goods pass inspection. Additionally, verify if the supplier has ISO 9001 certification to ensure consistent manufacturing processes.

Negotiate based on mold fees and unit price tiers. Many suppliers will waive the mold fee for orders exceeding 500 or 1,000 units. Ask for all-inclusive pricing (DDP) to avoid hidden costs related to customs clearance and local delivery in your home country.

Provide a Letter of Authorization if your design includes registered trademarks to prevent customs seizures. For shipping, Air Express (DHL/FedEx/UPS) is recommended for coins because they are heavy but low-volume, making air freight relatively efficient for quantities under 2,000 pieces while ensuring door-to-door tracking security.
