Elderly shoe manufacturers

When sourcing shoes for the elderly, the primary focus must be on safety, comfort, and ease of use. Key features include anti-slip outsoles with high friction coefficients (SRC rated) to prevent falls, extra-wide toe boxes to accommodate bunions or swelling (edema), and shock-absorbing midsoles (EVA or PU) to reduce joint pressure. Additionally, breathable upper materials like fly-knit mesh or soft leather are essential to maintain foot hygiene and prevent skin irritation.

Buyers should prioritize designs that feature arch support and heel stability to assist with balance. For users with limited dexterity, velcro closures or hands-free slip-on designs are superior to traditional laces. It is critical to verify that the insole is removable, allowing for the integration of custom orthotics if required by the end-user.

For the US market, ensure compliance with ASTM F2913-19 for slip resistance. For the EU, products should meet CE marking requirements and EN ISO 20347 if marketed as occupational footwear. Furthermore, ensure all materials are REACH or CPSIA compliant, guaranteeing they are free from harmful chemicals like lead, phthalates, and azo dyes.

To achieve economic feasibility, buyers should look for suppliers offering tiered pricing; typically, orders exceeding 500 pairs can reduce unit costs by 15-25%. Consider SKU consolidation—ordering fewer styles in higher volumes—to lower manufacturing costs. Always factor in the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), including customs duties and potential defect rates, rather than just the initial factory price.

The most significant risks include size inconsistency between Asian, US, and EU scales and material substitution (e.g., using synthetic leather instead of genuine leather). To mitigate this, request a Golden Sample before mass production and utilize third-party inspection services like SGS or Intertek to verify the production batch against the approved sample.

Focus negotiations on Quality Assurance (QA) terms and lead time guarantees. Request a detailed breakdown of material specifications in the contract. For long-term partnerships, negotiate for OEM/ODM customization (such as private labeling) at lower MOQs once a trust relationship is established through initial trial orders.

Always use secure payment methods provided by the platform, such as Secured Trading services on Made-in-China.com, which protect your funds until the goods are shipped. Avoid direct wire transfers to private accounts. Ensure the Proforma Invoice (PI) clearly states the refund policy for sub-standard goods.

For footwear, volume weight often impacts shipping costs more than actual weight. Use vacuum packaging or 'no-box' options for budget lines to reduce shipping volume. For high-end elderly shoes, ensure sturdy master cartons with moisture-absorbent silica gel packs are used to prevent mold during sea freight. Choose DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) terms if you prefer the supplier to handle all customs formalities and local delivery.
