Glasses optical frame manufacturers

When sourcing optical frames, material choice directly impacts durability and comfort. Acetate (Cellulose Acetate) is preferred for premium frames due to its deep gloss and hypoallergenic properties. For metal frames, Titanium is the gold standard for being ultra-lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and nickel-free. For budget-friendly or sports lines, TR-90 (Thermoplastic) offers incredible flexibility and impact resistance. Always verify that the hinges (preferably 3-barrel or 5-barrel) are made of stainless steel to prevent snapping.

Optical frames are classified as medical devices in many regions. For the US market, ensure the supplier is FDA Registered and products meet ANSI Z80.3 standards. For the EU, CE Marking is mandatory, and frames must comply with ISO 12870, which tests for perspiration resistance, bridge distortion, and nickel release (EN 16128) to prevent skin irritation.

Check for seamless polishing on acetate frames; there should be no visible lines where the temple meets the front. Test the spring hinges for smooth tension and ensure the nose pads are symmetrical and securely attached. For plated metal frames, a salt spray test report should be requested to ensure the coating won't peel after contact with sweat or skin oils.

Professional suppliers should offer laser-engraved logos on the inner temples and customized lens printing for demo lenses. Ensure the manufacturer can provide CAD drawings for new designs and has the capability to produce custom mold openings if you are developing a proprietary shape. A typical MOQ for custom acetate colors is 300-500 pieces per model.

Implement a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) through a third-party agency. Focus on a 2% AQL (Acceptable Quality Limit) for cosmetic defects like scratches on the frame or loose screws. Using Made-in-China.com's Secured Trading services can provide an extra layer of payment protection, ensuring funds are only released when shipping documents are verified.

Don't just negotiate on unit price; negotiate on mold costs and lead times. For long-term partnerships, ask for free spare parts (screws, nose pads, extra temples) to be included in the shipment (usually 1-3% of the order volume). Requesting FOB (Free On Board) terms is generally more cost-effective for bulk eyewear, as it allows you to control the freight consolidation.

Ensure each frame is packed in an individual polybag or soft pouch to prevent friction scratches. The master cartons should be double-walled corrugated fiberboard with a burst strength suitable for international transit. For high-value titanium frames, consider air freight to minimize handling time and humidity exposure in sea containers.

Avoid 'replica' designs of famous brands to prevent customs seizures. When sourcing from Made-in-China.com, prioritize Audited Suppliers who hold their own design patents. Always sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) before sharing your original design sketches with a factory to prevent your designs from appearing in their public catalog.
