Hand polished sunglasses manufacturers

For premium hand polished eyewear, Cellulose Acetate is the industry standard due to its deep gloss and hypoallergenic properties. Ensure the supplier uses Italian Mazzucchelli acetate or high-grade domestic equivalents for superior transparency. The internal wire core in the temples should be made of stainless steel or monel to allow for cold-adjustability without snapping.

True hand polishing involves a multi-stage process (tumbling in wood chips followed by manual buffing). You should look for a seamless transition between the frame and the temples. There should be no visible mold lines or 'orange peel' texture. Request a high-definition video of the frame under a spotlight to check for a mirror-like reflection and the absence of fine scratches.

Lenses must provide 100% UV400 protection. For the US market, they must pass the FDA 21 CFR 801.410 (Drop Ball Test) for impact resistance. For the EU, CE marking and compliance with EN ISO 12312-1 are mandatory. Consider offering TAC polarized lenses or Nylon lenses for better optical clarity and durability in premium segments.

The hinge system is critical. Prioritize 5-barrel or 7-barrel hinges for stability. Ensure the screws are Teflon-coated to prevent them from loosening over time. For metal components, verify that they are nickel-free to comply with international health standards and prevent skin irritation.

Implement a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) using the AQL 2.5/4.0 standard. Since hand polishing is a manual process, human error is possible. Specifically instruct the inspector to check for symmetrical frame alignment, hinge tension, and lens security. Using a secure payment method like Made-in-China.com's Star Direct or other escrow services can protect your funds until the inspection is passed.

Sunglasses are often classified as medical devices. For the US, the manufacturer must be FDA registered, and you may need a Device Initial Importer registration. For the EU, ensure the Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is included in the shipping documents. Failure to provide these can lead to customs seizure or heavy fines.

Hand-polished acetate frames usually have higher MOQs (typically 300-500 pieces per color) due to material sheet cutting requirements. To reduce risk, negotiate a 'Trial Order' of 100 pieces at a slightly higher unit price. Always request OEM branding (laser engraving or hot stamping) on the inner temple and include customized packaging (hard cases and microfiber cloths) to increase the perceived retail value.

Sunglasses are lightweight but high-volume. For small batches, Air Express (DHL/FedEx) is preferred to minimize handling. Ensure the supplier uses double-walled corrugated outer cartons and that each unit is protected by a bubble sleeve. For large sea freight orders, use pallets to prevent crushing damage during transit.
