Knotless fishing nets manufacturers

Knotless fishing nets are manufactured using a Raschel knitting process or interwoven technology, which eliminates the bulky knots found in traditional nets. The primary advantage is reduced fish injury (descaling), making them ideal for aquaculture and catch-and-release. Technically, they offer lower water resistance, which improves fuel efficiency for trawlers, and they maintain consistent mesh size under tension because there are no knots to slip or tighten.

The choice of material depends on the application. High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) is the industry standard for sea cages due to its excellent UV resistance and buoyancy. Nylon (Polyamide) is preferred for its high tensile strength and elasticity, making it suitable for heavy-duty commercial trawling. For premium applications, UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) offers the highest strength-to-weight ratio and superior abrasion resistance, though at a higher cost.

Buyers should verify that suppliers adhere to ISO 1107 (Fishing nets — Netting — Basic terms and definitions) and ISO 1805 (Determination of breaking force and knot breaking force of netting yarns). For environmental compliance, ensure the materials are REACH or RoHS compliant to avoid toxic additives. If sourcing for the European market, check for CE marking where applicable, and for sustainable projects, look for suppliers who can provide recycled content certifications (like GRS).

Request a technical data sheet specifying the denier/ply of the yarn, mesh size (stretched and half-mesh), and breaking strength (kgf). It is critical to ask for a UV degradation test report (e.g., Xenon arc exposure) to ensure the net won't become brittle in 6-12 months. Always order a production sample to inspect the selvage reinforcement and the uniformity of the weave.

The most significant risk is specification deviation, where the delivered mesh size or twine diameter differs slightly from the sample, rendering the net illegal under local fishing regulations. Another risk is weight fraud, as nets are often sold by weight; some suppliers may use heavy chemical coatings to increase weight. To mitigate this, use third-party inspection services like SGS or Intertek to verify specs before the balance payment is made.

Focus on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate for customized packaging (e.g., compressed bales) to reduce ocean freight volume. For long-term partnerships, request staggered payment terms (e.g., 30% deposit, 70% after BL copy) and ask for a quality guarantee period of at least 12-24 months against UV degradation.

Fishing nets are bulky; ensure the supplier provides an accurate Packing List with CBM (Cubic Meters) to optimize container loading (20GP vs 40HQ). Check the Harmonized System (HS) Code (typically 560811 for made-up fishing nets) to determine import duties in your country. Be aware of anti-dumping duties that some regions (like the EU or USA) may impose on synthetic fiber products from specific origins.

Always conduct transactions through secure payment channels provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com, utilizing their Secured Trading Service. This ensures that payment is only released to the supplier once you confirm the goods have been shipped and meet the agreed-upon standards. Avoid direct wire transfers to private bank accounts.
