Point load tester manufacturers

When evaluating a Point Load Tester, the most critical technical factor is the maximum load capacity, typically ranging from 50kN to 100kN. Ensure the device features a high-precision digital pressure gauge with an accuracy of 0.5% F.S. or better. The conical platens must be made of hardened steel (60 HRC) to prevent deformation during rock fracture. Additionally, verify the maximum specimen size the frame can accommodate, usually up to 100mm in diameter, to ensure compatibility with standard HQ or NQ drill cores.

To ensure data acceptance in international projects, the equipment must strictly adhere to ASTM D5731 (Standard Test Method for Determination of the Point Load Strength Index of Rock) and the ISRM (International Society for Rock Mechanics) suggested methods. Buyers should request a Calibration Certificate traceable to national standards and ensure the manufacturer holds an ISO 9001 certification for quality management systems.

For field use, a portable integrated design is essential. Look for testers housed in a rugged, weather-resistant carrying case with a total weight under 25-30kg for easy transport. A manual hydraulic pump system is preferred for remote areas as it eliminates the need for an external power source, while a protective transparent shield is a mandatory safety feature to protect operators from flying rock fragments during failure.

Modern testers should include a peak-hold function on the digital display to accurately capture the failure load. Advanced models offer USB or Bluetooth data export capabilities, allowing for direct integration into geotechnical software or ERP systems. This reduces manual entry errors and speeds up the calculation of the Uncorrected Point Load Strength Index (Is) and the Size-Corrected Index (Is50).

The main risks include calibration shift during transit and physical damage due to the heavy hydraulic components. To mitigate this, insist on seaworthy plywood crate packaging rather than standard cardboard. Furthermore, use Trade Assurance services on Made-in-China.com to ensure that the payment is only released once the supplier provides proof of third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI).

Negotiate for a spare parts kit to be included in the initial bulk order, focusing on O-rings, hydraulic seals, and replacement conical points. Request a 12 to 24-month warranty and confirm the availability of video technical support. For large-scale procurement, ask for a 5-10% discount on orders exceeding 5 units, or negotiate for FOB (Free On Board) terms to maintain better control over international shipping costs.

Since these devices contain hydraulic oil, they may be classified as 'sensitive goods' by some carriers. Ensure the supplier provides a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the oil or ships the unit 'dry' to avoid customs delays. Verify the HS Code (typically 9024.80) to calculate accurate import duties and ensure the Commercial Invoice clearly states the technical parameters to facilitate smooth customs clearance.
