The most critical factor is Intellectual Property (IP) Authorization. You must ensure the supplier holds a valid sub-licensing agreement from the copyright owner (Animation International or relevant regional licensors). For physical safety, products must meet EN71 (Europe) or ASTM F963 (USA) standards for toys, and REACH/RoHS for chemical content in PVC figures or electronic accessories.

For vinyl figures, check for mold precision (no visible seam lines) and paint application consistency (no bleeding between colors). For plush items, verify the GSM (grams per square meter) of the fabric and ensure reinforced stitching to prevent tearing. Always request a pre-production sample to check for character accuracy, as 'off-model' designs can lead to unsellable inventory.

If sourcing power banks or earphones, prioritize CE, FCC, and UL certifications. Ensure the battery cell quality is Grade A to prevent swelling. For silicone cases, specify food-grade silicone to ensure a premium tactile feel and anti-dust coating to improve product longevity and consumer satisfaction.

Shin Chan is a major driver in the Blind Box (Mystery Box) market. When sourcing, negotiate the ratio of 'chase' (rare) figures to standard figures. Ensure the packaging integrity is high-grade (350gsm+ paperboard) to prevent 'box feeling' or tampering, which is essential for maintaining the secondary market value and collector trust.

Customs authorities frequently seize counterfeit character goods. To prevent this, ensure your supplier provides a formal Authorization Letter (LOA) addressed to your company. You should also register the authorization with your local customs office if possible, and ensure the HS Code (e.g., 950300 for toys) is accurately declared on all shipping documents.

Focus on tiered pricing based on annual volume rather than a single order. Since licensed goods have higher margins, negotiate for marketing support materials (high-res renders, POS displays) to be included. For large orders, request inspection rights where a third party (like SGS) can audit the factory during the mid-production phase.

Character merchandise packaging is often as valuable as the product itself. Use double-walled corrugated outer cartons and specify palletization for sea freight to minimize manual handling. For air freight, ensure crush-test certified packaging is used to protect the retail boxes from denting, which significantly reduces the retail value.

Utilize Trade Security services provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com. Never pay 100% upfront; a standard 30% deposit and 70% balance against the Bill of Lading (B/L) after a successful pre-shipment inspection is the safest professional standard for B2B cross-border trade.
