Wood dolls manufacturers

B2B buyers should prioritize solid hardwoods such as beech, maple, or birch, as these materials offer superior durability and a smooth finish compared to softwoods. Ensure the wood is kiln-dried to a moisture content of 8%-12% to prevent cracking or warping during cross-border transit. For painted dolls, verify the use of non-toxic, water-based paints and lead-free lacquers to meet international safety benchmarks.

Since wood dolls are often classified as toys, they must adhere to strict safety regulations. For the US market, ASTM F963 and CPSIA certification are mandatory. For the EU, products must carry the CE mark and comply with EN71 (Parts 1, 2, and 3). Additionally, look for FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification to ensure the timber is sourced from sustainably managed forests, which is increasingly required by eco-conscious retailers.

Request samples to perform a 'Small Parts Test' using a choke tube to ensure no components pose a hazard to children. Check for smooth sanding (no splinters) and secure joints (using non-toxic D3 grade wood glue). For articulated dolls, test the tension of elastic cords or hinges to ensure they can withstand at least 50-100 cycles of movement without loosening.

Professional suppliers on Made-in-China.com typically offer laser engraving for logos, custom silk-screen printing for facial features, and bespoke packaging (such as recycled cardboard boxes). Discuss MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity) for custom shapes; usually, custom molds require an order of 500 to 1,000 units to be economically feasible.

The most significant risk is phytosanitary non-compliance. Many countries require a Fumigation Certificate or a Phytosanitary Certificate to prevent the spread of pests. Failure to provide this documentation can lead to customs seizure or mandatory destruction of the goods at the buyer's expense. Always confirm that the supplier can provide these documents before shipping.

For new supplier relationships, avoid 100% upfront payments. A standard industry practice is a 30% deposit to start production and the 70% balance paid after a third-party pre-shipment inspection (PSI). Utilize secure payment services or Escrow-based systems provided by reputable platforms like Made-in-China.com to protect your capital until the bill of lading is issued.

Wood is sensitive to humidity. Ensure the supplier uses desiccant silica gel packs inside the master cartons to prevent mold growth during sea freight. Cartons should be double-walled corrugated fiberboard with a bursting strength of at least 200 lbs per square inch. For LCL (Less than Container Load) shipments, insist on palletization and shrink-wrapping to prevent rough handling damage.

Check if the supplier is a 'Diamond Member' or an 'Audited Supplier' on Made-in-China.com. Review their Business License, ISO 9001 certification, and Factory Audit Reports. A legitimate manufacturer should be able to provide a clear production timeline and photos of their dust-free painting workshops.
