Chemical tank manufacturers

Selecting the correct material is critical to prevent corrosion and leakage. For highly corrosive acids, High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) or Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) are preferred due to their chemical inertness. For high-pressure or high-temperature applications, Stainless Steel (304 or 316L) is the industry standard. Always request a Chemical Resistance Chart from the supplier to ensure the tank material is compatible with your specific chemical's pH level and concentration.

To ensure safety and legal operation, verify that the manufacturer adheres to ASME Section VIII for pressure vessels or ASTM D1998 for polyethylene upright storage tanks. For hazardous material transport, tanks must meet UN Portable Tank T-code requirements. Ensure the supplier provides ISO 9001 certification and, if applicable, CE marking or UL listing to facilitate customs clearance and insurance compliance.

Modern chemical tanks should be equipped with secondary containment (double-wall design) to prevent environmental contamination in case of a primary leak. Essential accessories include ultrasonic level sensors, pressure relief valves (PRV), and anti-vortex outlets. For volatile chemicals, ensure the tank includes venting systems and grounding lugs to prevent static electricity buildup.

Request documentation on the wall thickness and hoop stress calculations. For plastic tanks, inquire about UV stabilizers if the tank will be placed outdoors to prevent brittleness. For metal tanks, verify the welding method (e.g., TIG or MIG) and request Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) reports, such as Radiographic Testing (RT) or Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI), to ensure seam integrity.

The biggest risks include structural damage during maritime transit and non-compliance with local environmental regulations. Because these items are bulky, improper bracing in the container can lead to deformation. We recommend hiring a third-party inspection agency (like SGS or Intertek) to perform a Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) to verify dimensions and leak tests before the final payment is made.

Chemical tanks often exceed standard container dimensions. Buyers should evaluate Flat Rack (FR) or Open Top (OT) containers for large units. For exceptionally large tanks, Breakbulk shipping may be necessary. Ensure the supplier uses heavy-duty sea-worthy packaging, including steel cradles and industrial-grade shrink wrap, to prevent saltwater corrosion on valves and fittings.

Focus negotiations on Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) rather than just the unit price. Negotiate for extended warranties (minimum 2-5 years) and the inclusion of critical spare parts kits (gaskets, seals, valves). For large-scale projects, use a staged payment structure: 30% deposit, 60% after successful FAT (Factory Acceptance Test), and 10% after arrival and inspection.
