Samurai katana set sword manufacturers

For professional-grade Katana, prioritize High Carbon Steel (1060, 1095) or T10 Tool Steel for superior hardness and edge retention. Ensure the blade is Full Tang (Nakago), meaning the steel extends through the entire length of the handle, secured by two bamboo pegs (Mekugi) for structural safety. For decorative sets, Stainless Steel is acceptable but must be clearly labeled as 'non-functional' to prevent misuse.

Look for a genuine Hamon (temper line) created through clay-tempering, rather than acid-etched patterns. The handle (Tsuka) should be wrapped in genuine Ray Skin (Samegawa) to provide a non-slip grip, and the wrap (Tsuka-ito) should be tight and symmetrical. Request close-up photos of the Kissaki (tip) to ensure proper polishing and geometry.

Swords are classified as edged weapons or collectibles depending on the jurisdiction. You must ensure the supplier provides a Certificate of Authenticity and clearly marks the items for Customs HS Code 9307.00 (Swords, cutlasses, bayonets, lances). Verify if the destination country requires the blades to be unsharpened (blunt) for legal import, especially in regions with strict weapon laws like the UK or parts of the EU.

Sourcing requirements differ by use case: Iaito (unsharpened) are for martial arts practice and require Zinc/Aluminum alloys for lightness; Shinken (sharp) are for Tameshigiri (target cutting) and require high-durability carbon steel; Decorative sets focus on the aesthetic of the Tsuba (guard) and Saya (scabbard) lacquer quality for home display.

The biggest risk is Customs Seizure. Many couriers (like DHL or FedEx) have specific restrictions on 'weapon-like' items. It is highly recommended to use specialized freight forwarders experienced in handling edged tools. Ensure the packaging is discreet and reinforced to prevent the blade from piercing the carton during transit, which could lead to safety liabilities.

Request a pre-shipment inspection (PSI) focusing on the 'flex test' and 'paper cutting test' (if sharpened). Negotiate a replacement clause for any blades that arrive with rust spots or cracked Sayas, as humidity during sea freight can damage high-carbon steel. Use Trade Messenger to document all technical specifications to ensure the final product matches the agreed-upon sample.

Always utilize Secured Payment services provided by Made-in-China.com to ensure funds are only released after confirming the goods meet the technical specifications. Avoid direct wire transfers to unknown accounts. For large bulk orders, consider a staged payment plan: 30% deposit, 40% after production/video verification, and 30% after passing third-party inspection.

Check the Export Control List of the sourcing country and the Import Prohibitions of your own. Some countries require an Import License for swords over a certain length. Ensure your supplier provides a Commercial Invoice that accurately describes the item as a 'Handicraft' or 'Sporting Good' to facilitate smoother customs clearance, provided it matches the actual nature of the product.
